If I may add this, II Corinthians 1:24 also expresses an important aspect of Paul’s understanding of his leadership position:

“Not that we have dominion over your faith, but are fellow workers for your joy; for by faith you stand.”

this is the most excelent website. thankyou for hooking me up layton.

i think that the best definition of authority i ever heard of was, “the responsibility and right to act, which never involves control over others”. the main influence paul appealed to was his responsibilty as a spiritual father(to most of europe that came to faith directly through his work)
2cor 12:14Now I am ready to visit you for the third time, and I will not be a burden to you, because what I want is not your possessions but you. After all, children should not have to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. 15So I will very gladly spend for you everything I have and expend myself as well.

doesnt sound like typical pastoral relationship.
